Preemptive Strike?

Today Tajikistan’s parliament banned the adoption by foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, Ewan McGregor is adopting a Mongolian daughter, Jessica Simpson is considering adopting a Mexican orphan, Meg Ryan adopted a Chinese child, and, of course, Angelina Jolie is adopting half the developing world.

Coincidence or consequence? You decide.

I don’t know why adoption should be a problem in Tajikistan. I think it is unfair to deny a child a happy life (that is when Angelina Jolies of this world adopt them).

“…Angelina Jolie is adopting half the developing world. ” Haha, this is a good one James!

But to add to my previous point: I suppose that is something aimed at preserving national identity of children who get adoped. Sort of reminding them of their roots, etc…

If I remember right, there used to be a similar moratorium on adoption, at least temporary, in Kyrgyzstan after a paedophile scandal in a foreign adoption structure.
