Hello! I am in Philadelphia. I can hardly imagine how it is to live in the Zerafshan valley. Do you think there were many more people 1000 years ago? I love reading about the history of Central ASia. If you have any photos will you send them ? I am afraid of flying!!! so I don't think I will try an AN-24 any time soon!!!
Please write some more.

[...] The Ayni-Penjikent road along the Zerafshan river is a fantastically scenic route. After another three to four hour drive, interrupted at some point by a traffic police officer soliciting “choypuli”, we arrived in Penjikent. [...]

I also like An-24, although it is too noisy... Yes, the plane is very good in terms of safety - it has two engines, but can easily land even with one engine broken. The only problem with these planes is that all of them are very old, actually much older than allowed by air security regulations...

Unfortunately, I have no pictures from the trip. I am still thinking of purchasing a digital camera...

I will also write a short post on the continuation of the trip - to Penjikent and Samarkand. I think it will be more interesting.

It's funny about "Scare lines". Actually, I think that AN-24 is one of the best planes in post-Soviet countries, though it looks like it is going to crash once it takes off. I heard from many people that it is considered to be one of the safest planes. And you feel less turbulence in AN 24 than in Boeing or Airbus. Seems funny but I know that from my experience.

I've never been to the northern parts of our country so it was interesting for me to read about it. I was surprised to hear that the tunnel is not constructed yet.
