No Graduation Parties And Hijabs In Universities
Nowadays all of Tajik society is obsessed with “social reforms” on the regulation of traditions and customs, says st_george (rus). It looks like a great competition. Obviously, the governmental officials and those who head the key organizations in the country are the first who want to gain the lead in the competition in order to please the head of the state.
st_george reports that one of the leading universities in Tajikistan, the Tajik-Russian Slavic University decided to refrain from festivities and make the graduation day a regular meeting, which was not even properly organized. Most students could not obtain their diplomas on their graduation day simply because they were not filled out in time.
The headmaster of the university decided not to participate in the graduation meeting in order not to be discredited. The most interesting part of this story is that there were no laws or edicts which regulate festivities at universities; the famous Law on regulation of customs and traditions does not say anything about universities. However, the administration of the Slavic university showed that it is also part of the whole process of cultural reforms.
Ramziya at AsiaPlus (rus) reports that some of the universities without any control from the government decided to ban wearing hijabs and miniskirts. Previously, this ban was initiated only in secondary schools. Although during the recent press-conference the Minister of Education publicly claimed that his office was not involved in any ban, the administrations of universities refer to the Minister as if he made an unofficial notice to all of them ordering them to ban hijabs and miniskirts.
During the press-conference the minister also announced that in the next academic year all universities will introduce uniforms.
