Today I found an excellent website – Tajik Artists. You can visit the site and view the beautiful works of twelve Tajik artists. I have never seen anything like this in Tajikistan. Thanks to Fabiola Agudelo - I have no more information about him her - this website was set up. The project was sponsored by SDC, AKHP and Kazakh Embassy in Tajikistan.

Fabiola says in her welcome letter on the website that first when she came to Tajikistan she knew nothing about this country. But later when she got to know some local people, her life had changed.

These locals were artists working in the “khudojnik colonia” (Russian for “Colony of artists”) and it was in their studios where I really started to know, understand, and appreciate the Tajik people.

You can see some of these beautiful paintings lining the walls of Morning Star Cafe in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. They are all for sale and the full purchase price goes to the artists. Or just sip a cappuccino or a cup of tea while enjoying the wonderful atmosphere. Go to www.morningstarcafe.net for directions.

Like CADA, MSC is a typical example of a cover-up for an evangelist missionary scheme.

“and it was in their studios where I really started to know, understand, and appreciate the Tajik people.”

Gospodi–typical expat bollocks. I saw that in Bishkek too. By far most artists, in the Sovietistans as elsewhere, are outlandish greenhouse plans that live in their own world and are not representative or connected whatsoever to society as it really is.

I am actually glad that we have these artists and this form of art. Really liked a couple of works. The warmth that you get from these paintings is quite familiar… They do feel like stuff from home.

    Keep up the good job.
