Endangered Pamiris
In the new academic year in secondary schools of Gorno-Badakhshan (Pamir) are studying 47 thousand students, which is for 2 thousand less than in the previous year, reports Pamir Media. According to the statistics the number of students decreases every year. During the last three years the number of school children decreased for more than 5 thousand. More than 70 classes (groups) are closed down. The main reason for the decrease is decrease in birth-rate.
Well, this is sad. It is also controversial. The official statistics says that the population of Tajikistan is growing, but the reality shows another picture. However, I would agree that the birth-rate in Tajikistan depends on a region. In some places the population is growing in others not. Probably Badakhshan is the only place in Tajikistan where the population is dwindling.
I see hear two main reasons: poverty and labor migration, where the former is the consequence of the later. Tajikistan is the poorest part of former Soviet Union, and Pamir is the poorest region in Tajikistan. Therefore people have no means for having several children. Also, the harsh living conditions force the mountainous people to leave the country. It is labor migration. People are literally escaping from poverty once they have a foreign passport and money for ticket in their hands, especially young people.

I agree with Tajik boy “freedom of speech is important”… But sometimes religions or some of political issues need to edid - it’s one of the regional tradition :-).
P.S. I have some problem with english. And because of it - If you saw an incorrect words or other errors please don’t give a big attention for it. Pleeeas

Nothing personal but you assume too much. Those who got offended need open their mind and try to develop some sense of humor, perhaps then they will start appreciating my comments.

Uhh - guys, I’m sure we can all make our opinions heard and STILL be nice and respectful of others. I haven’t seen TB’s comment before it got edited, but I trust Vadim’s editorial pen when it comes to moderation.
Anyway - taken into account your welcome contributions to this blog before, Tajik Boy, I’m sure you understand that “sense of humour” is a very subjective concept differing from person to person.
If you have any concerns about this, be sure to contact Vadim and me via email.
Thanks!
