Cultural Starvation
On October 27 there was a concert of a new music band “Overtime” at Bactria Culture Centre (NGO that deals with culture in Tajikistan). The band presented cover versions of such groups and singers as Sting, Beatles, Eagles, Joe Cocker, Elvis Presley. About 50 people came to the concert. The soloist was Kirill Kambarom – DJ from radio “Asia-Plus”. The concert appeared to be really warm. The guys did their best and showed “good versions of old songs”.
It is interesting that this new band itself consists of old members from unknown bands as Big Changes, New live (Tajik blues, jazz, soft-rock). I would call it “an old candy in new cover”.
But what is seen generally on the Tajik (or better say Dushanbe) music stage is not so much different fromm “Overtime”, it is even worse, it is “an old candy without any cover”. I mean that from time to time, we have to observe and listen to the same songs, singers and bands that are considered masters of the stage. And it is the same all the time.
I do not say that it is bad. In any country you can see the same but in our case it is a bit different. Our music (traditional and other) is stewing in it own juice. Whatever place you go you see the same faces on the stage as well as in the concert hall. And it seems that faces that I see in the hall come not because they are extremely interested in the concert, but they come because they are hungry for cultural events.
The cultural life in Dushanbe is limited to seldom concerts of what you have seen before in “Opera and Ballet” Theater.

I don’t need stress, and I don’t want drama,
I’m just dust on the path of Muhammed.

Well, I’ve got two tickets to Tajikistan…
