Timid outshoot of Tajik opposition
The disintegrated Tajik opposition is hoping to restrict the powers of the president. Recently, the parties not represented in the parliament – the Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party and the Socialist Party – released a joint statement “On the crisis situation in Tajikistan and ways to come out of it”. Probably it was a coincidence but the statement was made the next day after the departure of the President for the summit of Organization of Islamic Conference.
This statement surprised the whole society and it was considered as a brave and desperate action. However it is not taken for serious by the government because these parties do not have a big support in the country. Besides the fact that all of them are not represented in the parliament there are some other problems which discredit them: the Socialist party is not registered, the leader of the Democratic Party is in jail, and the Social Democratic Party’s leader was one of the main advisers of the current president and most of the people think that he is in the opposition just because he has a grudge.
In there statement (rus) they mentioned five main problems and ways of solving them.
1. Concentration of all powers in the hands of the current president – there should be organized a referendum to restrict the powers of the president by giving some of them to the parliament;
2. Weak personnel policy on the state level – stop employing the statesmen on local, tribal and regional basis, and rely only on the merit basis;
3. Wrong and unfair privatization of the state property – all the privatized state companies should be re-privatized and others nationalized.
4. Impunity of statesmen – investigate and punish the statesmen liable for the losses and damages suffered by the population [during the cold winter];
5. Wrong and unfair distribution of the international aid – make transparent the process of distribution of the international aid.
Obviously these are the first-to-do things in Tajikistan but we know that nothing will happen in the near future. We do not have an opposition in the country. What we have is a bunch of disintegrated and impotent parties with no support of the population. People do not support them because they do not have strong charismatic leaders. People do not support them because they are suppressed and have no chance to develop.
The only party which has some influence – the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) – did not join the statement. Muhiddin Kabiri, the leader of the IRP said (rus) that they did join the statement because they were not invited to participate in preparation of the document. But I think it was not the main reason.
“We will not get credits by criticizing the government,” – said M. Kabiri. He also said that their party can solve the occurred problems in the country together with the government.
Sorry but this is not about gaining credits but about the future of the country.
